Reimagining and Rebranding the International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad
Since 1989, the city of Ahmedabad has hosted the International Kite Festival as part of the official celebration of Uttarayan, but due to an outdated logomark and the unavailability of clear and structured brand guidelines, the event lacks visual cohesiveness. This academic project was aimed at solving these problems.
The proposed visual identity resonates with Uttarayan’s colorful skies and vibrant festive nature and aims to be more accessible, inclusive and practical. It brings in a motif inspired by a traditional kite that acts as a building block to the rest of the visual elements. The project is currently still being worked on for the possibility of an actual implementation.

BRANDING
The project´s initial phase involved comprehensive research into the festival's history, cultural significance, and audience demographics. Interviews with key stakeholders, from the Gujarat Tourism Marketing Manager to the Security Guard at the Kite Museum, and attendees provided invaluable insights.
After identifying the core values that define the festival, emphasizing community, celebration, and the artistry of kite flying, the modernization of the logomark and subsequent brand guidelines were made with multiple iterations and a continuous feedback loop from the ordinary people of Gujarat so that the project stays grounded in the culture.
