Visual Identity for the Alpavirama International Youth Film Festival

ALPAVIRAMA ( a comma in Sanskrit ) is a biennial International Youth Film Festival of short films and Documentaries organized by the Film and Video discipline at NID Ahmedabad since 2011.

This project was done in collaboration with Vaishnavi Laddha (Animation and Film Design) and Shubra Agarwal (Film and Video Communication) under the guidance of Hitesh Chaurasia, Festival Director, Alpavirama and Savyasachi Anju Prabir (Festival Coordinator). We were responsible for designing the visual identity and narrative of the 6th edition of the festival, which was scheduled from 7-12 November 2022. The theme for the year was an eye for change: looking at the change in recent times in filmmaking and film viewing through the eyes of young filmmakers.

The new visual identity is based on this year’s theme, ‘an eye for change’.The concept revolves around a dynamic interplay—zooming out to embrace the broader perspective and zooming in to appreciate the details.

At its core, the visual identity relies on circles with a paint stroke texture, serving as the most fundamental element for its effective communication. These circles seamlessly come together to form an eye, coexisting with the Alpavirama logo—a symbol capturing the essence of perception.

The primary colors are blue, orange, and yellow, but the identity of Alpavirama as a whole incorporates bright, bold colors to stand out and reflect the energy of the youth it is designed for. The visual identity, once created, was handed over to the Alpavirama team, who took it further to screens, social media, print, promos, and other deliverables.
